UN peacekeeper killed in Lebanon

The death of a French paratrooper in southern Lebanon has heightened international concerns over the stability of the regional ceasefire.

The soldier was part of a UNIFIL patrol clearing explosive ordnance when they came under small-arms fire near the village of Ghandouriyeh.

President Macron condemned the incident as a deliberate attack and demanded a thorough investigation by Lebanese authorities.

This violence occurs just days after a 10-day truce was established between Israel and Hezbollah, which remains extremely fragile.
