Trump Shifts Special Education, Civil Rights Out of Education Dept.

The Trump administration announced that oversight of special education and civil rights enforcement will be transferred from the Education Department to other federal agencies.

Civil rights enforcement will move to the Justice Department, while special education responsibilities will shift to the Department of Health and Human Services.

These transfers mean the bulk of the Education Department's functions have now been distributed across various agencies.

The move advances President Trump's stated goal of dismantling the department.
