EU approves €90bn loan for Ukraine

EU leaders gathering in Cyprus have finalized a landmark financial assistance package for Ukraine, intended to support the country's wartime efforts for the next two years.

The agreement was made possible after Ukraine repaired a critical pipeline, allowing Russian crude to reach Hungary and Slovakia.

In addition to the loan, the bloc approved a 20th package of sanctions against Russia to further squeeze its war economy.

President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed the decision as a fundamental step toward securing Ukraine's future and its path toward full EU membership.
