Meta Summoned Over Child Abuse Ads on Instagram

India’s Information Technology Ministry has summoned Meta executives to explain how ads promoting child sexual abuse material appeared on Instagram, in the latest crackdown on the social media giant.

The summons follows a separate government notice questioning the cybersecurity risks of a new WhatsApp username feature.

Officials have given Meta three days to respond, warning of potential action under the IT Act.

The move reflects heightened regulatory scrutiny in India, one of Meta’s largest markets by users.
