Wildfires Force Mass Evacuations in Southern France

Hundreds of firefighters battled wildfires in Portugal, Greece, France, and Spain as temperatures again soared above 40 degrees Celsius.

Thousands of hectares have burned, and Greek authorities warned of toxic smoke over Thessaloniki.

In southwestern France, a fire scorched 4,600 hectares and forced the evacuation of 10,000 people from two dozen towns near the Pyrenees.

A separate blaze in eastern Spain forced 500 evacuations in the Valencia region.
