Cairngorms Wildfire Forces Village Evacuation

A wildfire raging in the Cairngorms National Park entered its eleventh day on Saturday, prompting the evacuation of Nethy Bridge and a request for military aerial support from the UK Government.

More than 500 firefighters have been tackling the blaze, which has sent smoke drifting as far as Aberdeen.

First Minister John Swinney called the situation very serious, though residents were later told they could return home as the immediate threat eased.

The fire is one of several burning across the UK amid a prolonged dry spell.
