Norway Wildfire Destroys 100 Homes
More than 100 homes were destroyed by a wildfire in the southern Norwegian city of Drammen, in what authorities described as the largest blaze in the country's history.
The fire started in a townhouse around 3:30 p.m. on Friday and spread rapidly amid strong winds, forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate as firefighters struggled to contain the flames.
Officials said the fire was "not under control" for much of the operation, with emergency services working through the night to prevent further destruction.
The disaster ranks as the most destructive single fire event ever recorded in Norway.
