Israel and Lebanon Hold Talks

The historic meeting at the U.S. State Department, chaired by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, represents a rare diplomatic breakthrough between two nations technically at war since 1948.

While the talks were described as productive, significant hurdles remain as Israel demands the complete disarmament of Hezbollah and the establishment of a buffer zone.

Lebanese representatives expressed a desire to be liberated from the militant group's influence, but Hezbollah has already stated it will not be bound by any agreements reached in Washington.

The parallel opening of this diplomatic track coincides with renewed efforts to bring the U.S. and Iran back to the negotiating table.
