Lufthansa cuts 20,000 summer flights

Lufthansa is implementing a massive reduction in its summer schedule, removing 20,000 flights to achieve jet fuel savings of more than 40,000 metric tons.

The airline cited the 'unprecedented' rise in fuel costs, which have surged due to the naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.

This decision follows similar actions by other major carriers and threatens to cause widespread travel misery for holidaymakers.

Industry experts warn that if the Middle East crisis persists, more airlines may be forced to introduce surcharges or further axe unprofitable routes.
