Gunfire in Philippine Senate

The Philippine Senate became the site of a violent confrontation as security forces attempted to execute an arrest warrant for Senator Ronald dela Rosa.

Dela Rosa, a former police chief wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity, escaped the building following a burst of gunfire that left at least one person detained.

The incident followed a three-day standoff during which the senator had sought refuge within the legislative complex.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has called for calm as authorities investigate whether the escape was facilitated by internal collaborators, further heightening political tensions in Manila.
