Sam Altman apologizes for shooter

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has issued a formal apology to the community of Tumbler Ridge, B.C., following a mass shooting in January.

Altman admitted the company failed to alert police after the shooter's disturbing online behavior was flagged on ChatGPT. The company had identified the user's account for policy violations related to 'violent activities' eight months before the massacre but did not report it to law enforcement.

The shooting resulted in the deaths of eight people, including six children, sparking intense criticism of tech safety protocols.
