Kenya fuel protests turn deadly

Kenya is in the grip of a major domestic crisis as protests over soaring fuel costs escalate into deadly clashes with security forces.

At least four people have been killed and dozens injured during a nationwide strike called by minibus operators that has brought transport to a standstill in Nairobi and Mombasa.

Protesters have lit bonfires and blocked major highways, expressing outrage over government price hikes that have seen diesel costs jump by nearly 50%.

President William Ruto, currently attending a summit in Azerbaijan, has yet to address the unrest, while opposition leaders have been accused of exploiting the crisis for political gain.
