Cyclospora Outbreak Tops 1,000 Cases

The outbreak of cyclosporiasis, caused by the Cyclospora parasite, has spread to over 1,000 cases in Michigan and is also being reported in other parts of the US Midwest and New York City.

The illness causes prolonged watery diarrhea and is typically linked to contaminated fresh produce.

Health authorities are working to trace the source, urging the public to wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly.

The CDC has noted that this is the largest cyclospora outbreak in Michigan's history.
