Record climbers summit Mount Everest

A record 274 climbers scaled the Nepalese side of Mount Everest in a single day, taking advantage of a brief window of clear weather.

The previous single-day record of 223 climbers was set in 2019.

Renowned guide Kami Rita Sherpa, who recently completed his 32nd summit, has called for authorities to limit the number of climbers to ensure safety.

The surge in numbers follows the closure of the Tibetan route by Chinese authorities.
