US-Iran peace talks begin

Vice President JD Vance is leading the American delegation in Pakistan, joined by special envoy Steve Witkoff and political adviser Jared Kushner, to stabilize a fragile ceasefire.

The Iranian team, headed by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, has reportedly entered the talks with deep mistrust of Washington.

Key sticking points include Iran's demand for a ceasefire in Lebanon and the unfreezing of assets held in foreign banks.

Failure to reach a lasting agreement could see a resumption of military action, which has already caused significant global economic disruption.
