Artemis II commander's 'Carroll' crater

Artemis II commander's 'Carroll' crater

The gesture was a tribute to Carroll Wiseman, who passed away in 2020 after a battle with cancer.

Wiseman described the experience as a deeply personal highlight of the 10-day mission, which saw humans travel farther from Earth than ever before.

The 'Carroll' crater is located on the far side of the moon, a region the crew explored in unprecedented detail.

Wiseman noted that seeing the lunar landscape while carrying his wife's memory provided a sense of peace during the high-risk voyage.
