Dozens kidnapped in Nigerian attacks

Gunmen have abducted at least 39 students and seven teachers in a coordinated series of attacks on schools in Nigeria's southwestern Oyo state.

One teacher was reportedly beheaded in captivity, an act President Bola Tinubu described as 'barbaric' as he ordered security forces to intensify rescue efforts.

The attacks occurred in the Esiele community, where explosive devices were used against security operatives during an initial rescue attempt.

The incident has sparked a national outcry, with traditional rulers and religious bodies demanding urgent government action to secure learning institutions.
