SCOTUS weighs immigration protections
The Supreme Court heard oral arguments on Wednesday regarding the Trump administration's effort to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of thousands of migrants from Haiti and Syria.
The conservative majority appeared sympathetic to the administration's argument that the program can be ended without judicial review, citing national security and foreign policy interests.
Liberal justices questioned whether the decision was influenced by past disparaging remarks made by President Trump regarding Haiti.
A final ruling could affect the legal status of more than 1.3 million foreign nationals currently living in the United States under the humanitarian program.
