Péter Magyar ousts Viktor Orbán

Hungary is entering a new era following the landslide victory of Péter Magyar, who successfully challenged Viktor Orbán’s long-standing grip on power.

Magyar, a former government insider turned whistleblower, capitalized on growing public anger over corruption and the consolidation of state institutions.

The defeat is a significant blow to the international far-right movement, which had long viewed Orbán as a model for 'illiberal democracy.' Magyar has pledged to restore the rule of law, dismantle the oligarchic system, and seek a pragmatic but firm dialogue with Russia regarding the war in Ukraine.
