Hamas Dissolves Gaza Government

Hamas announced the dissolution of the body that had governed the Gaza Strip for nearly two decades, clearing the way for a transfer of power to a UN-backed technical committee.

The move was part of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire deal and was seen as largely symbolic.

It came amid ongoing Israeli attacks and worsening humanitarian conditions in the territory.

Hamas did not say whether it planned to take part in the new governing body.
