Trump targets Chinese AI theft
In a major escalation of the tech war, the White House has singling out China for allegedly leveraging U.S. research to build rival AI capabilities.
Michael Kratsios, the president's chief science adviser, warned that foreign actors are bypassing years of R&D by copying the outputs of frontier models from companies like OpenAI and Meta.
The administration is now vowing to restrict access to these models for foreign firms and is considering new export controls on advanced semiconductor equipment.
This move comes as the U.S. seeks to maintain its lead in the global AI race amid deepening national security concerns.
