US soldier charged with insider betting
Federal prosecutors have charged Master Sgt. Gannon Ken Van Dyke with wire fraud and violating the Commodity Exchange Act after he allegedly profited from insider knowledge of a covert mission.
Van Dyke was part of the operation to capture Nicolás Maduro in January and reportedly placed high-stakes wagers on the exact timing of the raid.
Polymarket flagged the suspicious activity to the Department of Justice, leading to an investigation that has raised serious concerns about the integrity of prediction markets.
Van Dyke now faces a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
