Guatemala Denies US Strike Deal

President Bernardo Arévalo of Guatemala has publicly refuted claims of a secret agreement allowing U.S. military strikes against drug cartels within his nation's borders.

While acknowledging a request for increased collaboration, Arévalo emphasized that Guatemala remains committed to its sovereignty and has not authorized joint kinetic operations.

The denial comes amid reports that the U.S. has carried out dozens of strikes on suspected drug-smuggling vessels in the eastern Pacific.

Arévalo stated that while the two nations are working to intensify their fight against trafficking, any such operations must strictly adhere to international law.
