Senator Bill Cassidy has become the latest casualty of President Donald Trump's intraparty revenge tour, failing to secure enough votes in the Louisiana primary to advance.

Cassidy, one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump following the January 6 Capitol riot, was heavily targeted by the president's political operation.

Trump-endorsed Representative Julia Letlow and John Fleming secured the top two spots and will face off in a runoff next month.
