Australian Army Gets First Female Chief

Australian Army Gets First Female Chief

The appointment was announced by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as part of a wider transition in the Australian Defence Force.

Current Navy chief Vice Admiral Mark Hammond will be promoted to Chief of the Defence Force, replacing the retiring David Johnston.

Coyle's promotion comes as Australia seeks to increase female representation in its senior military ranks.

She previously served as the head of joint capabilities and has held several high-profile command roles throughout her career.
