Haiti gang expansion halted

The relative progress in Haiti's security situation is being attributed to a combination of drone strikes, police operations, and the emergence of self-defense groups.

Despite these efforts, gangs continue to control significant portions of the capital and have recently launched deadly attacks on smaller towns in the south.

The humanitarian crisis in the country remains dire, with heavy rains recently killing 12 people and damaging hundreds of homes.

UN experts are calling for sustained international support to prevent the gangs from regaining their momentum and further destabilizing the nation.
