House Blocks War Powers Resolution

House Blocks War Powers Resolution

For the third time this year, a Democratic-led effort to curtail the president's war powers has failed in the House of Representatives.

Lawmakers debated the constitutionality of the ongoing conflict with Iran, which has now entered its seventh week without formal authorization from Congress.

While nearly all Democrats supported the measure, Republican leaders successfully kept their ranks unified in support of the administration's campaign.

The defeat means President Trump retains significant autonomy to continue military operations and the naval blockade of Iranian ports.
