Alberta and Ontario Unveil Cross-Canada Pipeline Plan

Standing side-by-side at a Stampede breakfast, Premier Danielle Smith and Ontario Premier Doug Ford revealed a proposed route for a west-to-east crude oil pipeline that would traverse the Canadian Shield entirely within Canada.

The plan follows a trilateral agreement with Saskatchewan to explore an east-west energy corridor and is being pitched as a nation-building exercise to reduce reliance on US markets.

Federal Energy Minister Stephen Lecce called the pipeline critical to Canadian sovereignty.

However, the proposal immediately drew skepticism from Quebec, which blocked similar projects in the past, and from climate advocates who argue it locks in fossil fuel infrastructure for decades.
