Venezuela Earthquake Toll Surpasses 1,700

The death toll from Venezuela's devastating twin earthquakes on June 24 has risen to more than 1,700, with over 5,000 injured and up to 68,000 people still missing.

Rescue teams, including international crews from Turkey and UN-backed operations, are working around the clock in the hardest-hit areas like La Guaira, though hopes of finding survivors are fading.

Residents have accused the government of negligence and apathy, saying years of mismanagement have left the state ill-equipped to respond.

The La Guaira port has reopened to receive humanitarian aid, with the USS Fort Lauderdale delivering critical supplies, while opposition leader Maria Corina Machado has vowed to return to the country to assist recovery efforts.
