Record June Heatwave Bakes Britain

Britain recorded its hottest June since records began in 1884, with temperatures exceeding 37C as the Met Office confirmed England's average temperature reached 17.1°C. A new yellow heat health alert has been issued for the coming weekend, while parts of the country also experienced severe thunderstorms.

The extreme heat has been linked to a broader pattern of record-breaking global temperatures, with the world's oceans also hitting their hottest June ever.

Scientists warn that the developing El Niño phenomenon could push temperatures even higher in the coming months.
