Ireland's fuel crisis and protests

A week of turmoil in Ireland culminated in a massive government intervention to address soaring energy prices.

Protesters using tractors and trucks had blocked major ports and the country's only oil refinery, leading to police action and multiple arrests in Dublin and Cork.

The new measures include further duty reductions and a delay in carbon tax increases.

While some blockades have been stood down, organizers warn that the package is "insulting" and that demonstrations may continue if prices do not stabilize.
