Counter-Terror Police Probe Widdecombe Murder

Counter-terrorism police are investigating a possible left-wing extremism motive in the killing of former Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe, who was found dead at her Devon home.

A man is being held on suspicion of murder as detectives examine whether the suspect plotted to target other Reform UK figures.

Police say there was ‘some preparation and planning’ behind the crime and are not ruling out foreign state interference, while also probing whether a TV appearance might have motivated her killing.

Incoming Prime Minister Andy Burnham has called for a ‘serious review’ in response to the murder, and police are also investigating a social media post that appeared to celebrate Widdecombe’s death.
