Carney secures Liberal majority

In a decisive night for Canadian politics, Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal Party has attained a majority in the House of Commons.

By winning all three contested seats in Toronto and Montreal ridings, the Liberals have reached the 172-seat threshold required to govern independently until 2029.

The results follow a series of floor crossings that had already brought the party close to a majority over the past six months.

Analysts suggest the victory provides Carney with a powerful mandate to pursue his economic agenda, which focuses on diversifying trade and increasing energy exports.
