Virginia redistricting map blocked by judge

The battle over Virginia's electoral boundaries has moved to the state Supreme Court after Judge Jack Hurley issued a surprise ruling to halt the certification of the new map.

Voters had narrowly approved the redistricting referendum, which was championed by Governor Abigail Spanberger to end partisan gerrymandering.

However, Republican challengers argued that the process was flawed and disadvantaged rural voters.

The legal impasse has created widespread uncertainty for candidates and voters just months before the crucial elections.
