UK convicts Chinese 'shadow police'

A British court has convicted a UK border official and a former Hong Kong police officer of spying for China's intelligence services.

The pair were found guilty of conducting 'shadow policing' operations to monitor and harass pro-democracy activists living in the United Kingdom.

Prosecutors presented evidence that the men accessed government databases and conducted physical surveillance on behalf of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office.

China's foreign ministry has denounced the convictions as a "political farce."
