Roblox launches child safety accounts

In response to growing global pressure for social media bans on minors, Roblox Corp. has announced a new age-verification system using facial-estimation technology.

Users aged five to eight will be placed in 'Roblox Kids' accounts, while those aged nine to fifteen will use 'Roblox Select,' with both tiers featuring enhanced parental controls and curated game access.

The move comes as the company faces a potential $49.5 million fine in Australia for failing to protect younger players.

Roblox is also reverting to the term 'games' after years of labeling its offerings as 'experiences' during legal disputes with Apple.
