Iran, US Halt Attacks, Agree to Doha Talks
The United States and Iran have agreed to halt their latest round of tit-for-tat attacks and will meet in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday to discuss the future of the Strait of Hormuz, a U.S. official confirmed.
The agreement comes after a weekend of renewed hostilities in which Iran launched missiles and drones at U.S. military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait, prompting American airstrikes on Iranian positions.
The fragile ceasefire, established by a memorandum of understanding on June 17, had been tested by both sides, with Iran threatening to abandon talks entirely.
The Doha negotiations are expected to address Iran's demand for control over shipping lanes and the broader framework for ending the Middle East conflict.
