New charges for pipe bomb suspect
The new indictment follows the discovery of what prosecutors describe as a 'voluminous' digital trail left by the suspect, which allegedly links him to the planning and execution of the failed attack.
Cole was originally charged with several lesser offenses, but the Justice Department has doubled down on the case as it continues to seek accountability for the events surrounding the 2021 insurrection.
The pipe bombs, which were discovered by security personnel, thankfully failed to detonate.
Cole has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and his legal team is expected to challenge the strength of the evidence in an upcoming trial.
