Peter Magyar ousts Viktor Orban

In a historic political shift, pro-European candidate Péter Magyar has defeated longtime Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán in a landslide election victory.

Magyar has promised to usher in a 'new era' for Hungary by restoring democratic standards and unblocking frozen European Union funds.

The defeat of Orbán, a key ally of President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, has prompted a reassessment of far-right influence within the EU. While the Kremlin has expressed openness to 'pragmatic dialogue' with the new government, Magyar has signaled a significant pivot toward mainstream European policies and support for Ukraine.
