Georgia Rep. David Scott dies at 80

Representative David Scott, a prominent figure in Georgia politics for more than 20 years, has died while seeking his 13th term in office.

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus confirmed his passing, praising him as a trailblazer who was fiercely committed to his constituents in Atlanta's southern suburbs.

Scott was a leading voice for his party on agricultural and food policy throughout his extensive career.

He becomes the fifth member of the current Congress to die in office since January 2025.
