US strikes Iranian launchers after lull

US forces struck Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, marking their first military action in weeks and breaking a lull in direct confrontation.

The strike targeted launchers that were deemed a threat to shipping in the strategic waterway, through which a significant portion of global oil trade passes.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has vowed retaliation, raising concerns about a renewed escalation in the region.

The action also pushed oil prices above $90 a barrel as markets reacted to the heightened risk to maritime traffic.
