Venezuela Earthquake Toll Exceeds 4,300

Venezuela's National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez announced that the official death toll from the catastrophic June 24 twin earthquakes has climbed to 4,333, with 16,740 people injured and thousands still unaccounted for.

The quakes devastated the coastal state of La Guaira, reducing buildings to rubble and overwhelming emergency services.

Rodriguez stated that the government will begin distributing housing to survivors next week.

Al Jazeera reported that many families have been left to conduct search-and-rescue operations themselves, digging through debris without adequate support from authorities.
