US revoking passports for child support

The State Department will begin revoking the U.S. passports of thousands of parents who owe significant amounts of unpaid child support.

The program will initially target those with debts exceeding $100,000 before expanding to cover any parent owing more than $2,500.

Officials stated the measure is a powerful tool to compel payment from wealthy individuals who travel internationally while neglecting their domestic obligations.

The initiative is being coordinated with state-level child support enforcement agencies and the Department of Health and Human Services.

Critics have raised concerns about the impact on parents who work abroad, but supporters argue it prioritizes the welfare of children.
