Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick Resigns

Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick's sudden resignation came just minutes before a scheduled disciplinary hearing by the House Ethics Committee.

The panel had proven nearly all charges against her, most notably that she funneled $5 million in pandemic relief funds into her congressional campaign.

In a defiant statement, the lawmaker compared the investigation to a 'witch hunt,' a phrase frequently used by President Trump.

Her exit marks the third resignation from the House this month as a wave of ethics scandals continues to engulf the chamber.
