Swalwell and Gonzales Resign

Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell and Republican Representative Tony Gonzales submitted their formal resignations this Tuesday, abruptly ending their congressional careers.

The move followed intense pressure from colleagues on both sides of the aisle after explosive allegations of sexual assault and inappropriate relationships surfaced against the men.

Swalwell also suspended his campaign for Governor of California, while Gonzales had previously dropped his reelection bid.

A special election to fill Swalwell's seat has been scheduled for August 18.
