Flash Floods Swamp NYC Ahead of World Cup Final
Torrential thunderstorms triggered flash flooding across New York City on Saturday, submerging streets and disrupting travel just hours before the World Cup final.
Social media footage showed commuters wading through deep water as the storm threatened to delay the arrival of 80,000 fans at MetLife Stadium.
The severe weather overnight also caused water rescues and major travel disruptions across the Northeast.
Organisers were monitoring conditions closely with the final between Spain and Argentina scheduled for Sunday evening.
