Meta faces EU child safety charges

Meta faces EU child safety charges

The European Commission has issued preliminary findings against Meta Platforms, alleging the company failed to adequately protect children on its platforms.

Regulators claim that Meta did not do enough to prevent users under the age of 13 from accessing Facebook and Instagram, potentially violating the Digital Services Act.

The investigation found that Meta's age-verification tools were easily bypassed and that the company's algorithms may encourage addictive behavior in minors.

If the findings are confirmed, Meta could face significant fines and be forced to implement more rigorous safety measures across its services in the EU.
