John Ternus named Apple CEO

Apple is entering a new era as John Ternus prepares to take over the top spot from Tim Cook.

Ternus, a 25-year veteran of the company, is credited as a key architect of the iPhone and Mac and is known for his hands-on, decisive management style.

He faces the immediate challenge of defining Apple's strategy in artificial intelligence and navigating complex relations between Washington and Beijing.

Outgoing CEO Tim Cook will remain as executive chairman, focusing on his role as a global ambassador for the $4 trillion company.
