States Sue to Block Paramount-WBD Merger

California and eleven other states filed an antitrust lawsuit to block Paramount's $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros.

Discovery.

The suit argues the merger would harm competition in film distribution and cable television, leading to higher prices and fewer options for consumers.

New York Attorney General Letitia James and California Attorney General Rob Bonta are leading the challenge, with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani also expressing solidarity.

The theater owners' trade group has backed the lawsuit, warning the deal would reduce the number of major film distributors.
