EU Fines Temu $232 Million

EU Fines Temu $232 Million

The European Commission has imposed a 200 million euro fine on the Chinese e-commerce giant Temu for significant breaches of the Digital Services Act.

An investigation revealed that a high percentage of electronic chargers and children's toys sold on the platform failed basic safety and environmental tests.

Regulators also blamed Temu's recommendation algorithms for actively promoting illegal and hazardous products to European consumers.

The fine marks one of the first major enforcement actions against a Chinese digital retailer under the EU's new, stricter consumer protection framework.
